Following the entry into force of the Swedish Act on the Accessibility of Certain Products and Services in June, the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (Sw. PTS) has initiated its first round of market surveillance and supervision under the new legislation.
Market Surveillance – Laptops, Smartphones, and Tablets
The market surveillance covers laptops, smartphones, and tablets, focusing on compliance with the requirements for an EU declaration of conformity and information requirements, including the obligation that the information be accessible.
Supervision of E-commerce Services
The supervision covers e-commerce services provided through websites, with mobile applications out of scope. PTS will review three areas of the e-commerce services – the homepage, a product page, and the search function. The review aims to assess compliance with the Act’s requirements for accessible information about how the service functions, as well as the perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness of websites.
Timeline and Expansion of the Supervision of E-commerce Services
The market surveillance and supervision will continue throughout 2025 and into 2026. The supervision of e-commerce services will be carried out in stages, meaning that not all companies will be reviewed simultaneously. The selection of additional companies to be included at a later stage in the supervision has yet to be determined, according to PTS.
